From January 17th to 19th, 2020, the European Indoor Hockey Championships for men will take place in Lucerne.

Exciting games will take place on these three days in the Maihof sports hall, because it is about promotion to the highest European hockey class.

The Swiss national team will also practice this fast-paced, thrilling indoor sport over these three days and needs the support of as many spectators as possible.

Admission under 6 years is free, children up to 16 years pay 5 francs and adults pay 10 francs per day. There are also attractive 3-day passes.

Land hockey is one of the oldest & most popular sports in the world and has been an Olympic discipline since 1908.

English students brought hockey to Switzerland around 1900.

The first game on Swiss soil is said to have been played in a girls' boarding school in 1902. The Swiss Land Hockey Association, which was renamed Swiss Hockey in 2015, was founded in 1919 (www.swisshockey.org). Today there are 19 clubs throughout Switzerland with around 1,700 active players.

In the world rankings, the national team is 34th and the women 38th. The dominant nations for women are the teams from Australia, the Netherlands, Argentina and Germany and for the men the teams from Belgium, the Netherlands, India, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and England.

In the hall, the Swiss national team is currently among the top 10 teams in the world rankings: the men are in 8th place and the women are 7th.
